Music for St Nicholas Day

If you’ve ever wondered where that jolly old man with a white beard and red cloak that we know as Santa Claus actually comes from, then this is the concert for you. Pakefield Singers will be performing Benjamin Britten’s cantata St Nicolas which recounts the life and miracles of St Nicolas, an early Christian Bishop which gave rise to many of our Christmas traditions.

Also on the programme is the traditional nativity story but with an Argentinian twist. Navidad Nuestra (Our Nativity) by Ariel Ramirez is subtitled “A folk drama of the nativity based on rhythms and traditions of Hispanic America.” It’s the nativity story as you’ve never heard it before!

Vetta Wise conducts with Tenor Evan Ruth, Organ Tim Patient, Piano Terry Cunnane, Guitar Andrew Osborn.
