The Ecstasy Of Nature The Nature Of Ecstasy MORNING WALK

Saturday 18th October 2025

Walk 11.00-12.45. Meet at St Mary’s Church, Bungay.

Do you want to see the familiar with different eyes? Do you want to deepen your experience of nature, of architecture, of place? Do you want to connect with a view, a butterfly, a historical event? Do you want to express your experience verbally? If so, come and join us on 18th October.

Chris Reeve, formerly in charge of Bungay Museum and dedicated local historian, with many published books to his credit, will take us in the morning to some famous (and infamous) locations in the town that have made a deep impression on him.

(Optional poetry workshop in the afternoon - book separately.  Lynne Nesbit, with 50 years of poetry writing behind her, will lead a workshop in the afternoon, exploring the impact of some of the places we will have experienced on the walk and guiding us in ways to create expressive writing about them. No previous experience of poetry is required.)

Being October, bring an umbrella; being a creative day, bring an open mind. Being hungry, if staying for the afternoon poetry workshop, bring a packed lunch or taste Bungay’s delights. Both parts of the day can be purchased separately. £9 for each half day event.

W&BArts: past, present and future A PICNIC

I would be delighted if you could join me and fellow Waveney & Blyth Arts trustees for a summer tea-time picnic in our garden in Halesworth at 4pm on Thursday 14 August.

Our plan is for an informal gathering to celebrate the rich history of W&BA – and to have a look at what its future holds. Simon Raven, who many of you will know, has stepped down as trustee – with us since our launch 15 years ago – and we also want to give him a good send-off.

We will provide drinks – tea/coffee, soft drinks and wine – but bring anything else you might like to drink. Please do bring food for yourself and/or to share - whatever you want to bring is fine - it always works out!

Our main purpose is to celebrate this lovely community, but we will also use this opportunity to have our AGM later in the afternoon. Don’t worry, the formal proceedings will be minimal but we would love to involve those of you who are willing in a conversation about our future, which is looking uncertain past the end of the year.

So that we can get an idea of numbers, please will you book a ticket (no charge). We will send details of the address, parking etc nearer the time to those that book.

We look forward very much to seeing some of you then. And fingers crossed for good weather!

Very best wishes,

Philippa Williams

Margaret Mellis was an artist for 77 years, most of them spent in and around the Waveney valley. Her son, Telfer Stokes, will be talking to Nicky Stainton at The Cut in Halesworth. Their conversation will include works from both mother and son artists.
